The most stupendous event in all of history occurred about 2000 years ago when God fulfilled the promises of the Bible’s prophets. The human life of baby Jesus became one with that of the Son of God who grew to sinless manhood. He claimed to be God, manifest in the flesh, who achieved all kinds of wonderful works yet the world rejected and crucified Him. God raised Him from the dead, exalted Him with all glory, proclaimed reconciliation and forgiveness of sins to all who put their trust in this Jesus who has been “raised from the dead.” As the well known hymn declares:
Hark the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King.”
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Christ by highest heaven adored,
Christ the Everlasting Lord,
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of the virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate Deity,
Pleased as man with men to dwell,
Jesus our Immanuel,
Hark the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King.
